Future of an Electrical Engineer

By Boyuan Sun

Speaking about electrical engineering, the major of my first decision, firstly I want to give you a brief introduction about what is this major about, what we do and how we do it. “Electrical engineering (EE) ranges from the generation and delivery of electrical power to the use of electricity in integrated circuits.”[1] In another word, it is a study and application of hardware, some mathematics and science in integrated circuit devices by computer simulations.

For instance, we make innovations in the automotive manufacture, decide our next step on communication revolution, advance the technology all around us. This may sounds exciting to you but they are not easy to achieve.

According to the Collegiate Employment Research Institute at Michigan University who took the survey from 1994 to mid-2001 and the most recent survey from 2012 to 2013, it shows a the hiring trends slowly recovered each year from the contract of hiring since 2004. The market is still tight but there are opportunities for new college graduates who devote efforts to find them. Also the it should be noted that the starting salary and employment opportunities have traditionally surpassed those of most other majors on collage campuses.[2]

The median salary of an electrical engineering is 89,630 USD per year. It sounds quite awesome. However, to make it happen it requires a long career path from an engineer all the way up to a technical director or a fellow.
